Aesthetic Vibes
“go out there and get whatever you desire in life”
Alisha is a seventeen year old business owner who creates and designes her own clothes for her clothing line Aesthetic vibes. Alisha was born and raised in South Side, Jamaica, Queens, New York. Three years ago Alisha and her family moved to Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, to get away from the city life. Alisha has aspirations to become a fashion designer and wants her brand to recognized on a global scale. With motivation, ambition and creativity, anything is possible. Here is her story.
What inspired you to want to become a designer?
Designing, I felt like that was my greatest outlook for creativity. I have always had many different ideas whether it was clothes or little nick knack's when I was little, so I just felt like all of my ideas represent who I am, and it was the best way to express myself through fashion.
What is fashion to you?
Fashion to me is, however, you want to express yourself. I think it's really based on your personality; it's a freedom of expression because you can do anything with fashion. You can dress up or down depending on what you want to wear and how you want to style it.
What does your brand stand for?
Aesthetic means concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty. So, my brand is promoting people to be themselves, have their own grind and be surrounded by good energy and good vibes. My line is geared toward the younger generation to. I want to encourage my peers to go out there and get whatever they desire in life. Don't allow anyone to hold you back and be able to express yourself without people telling you what to do.
What has been one of your biggest challenges and how did you overcome it?
When I initially started my brand, I did include another person I was working with and because we had our own sense of style bumped heads we ended up not working with each other. I think that was my biggest mistake because I should have done it myself because no one will see your vision the way you do but you. Now that I am working but myself it became easier for me to just be me and do what I want with my brand.
For someone who wants to become a designer what kind of advice you would give them?
The advice I would give them is to not look a what’s new and what trending base your designs off of what you like. It’s all about your personality and your creativity and how you express yourself. Don’t design stuff based off what you think people may like to be yourself and if people like it then your set.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is urban, street wear. And being that I am from the city I just have that type of vibe.
What is your favorite part about being a fashion designer?
My favorite part about being a fashion designer is that I can always design what I want to wear. You might go to the store and find something that you like but realize that it’s missing that one piece. That’s why I can design whatever I want and it’s a great outlet for me to express myself.
Have you done any fashion shows?
I have recently done a fashion show at ESU with the black student union.
What are your greatest strengths and how will that help you as a fashion designer?
I think my greatest strength for me is my creativity because I never run out of ideas.
Whats Next?
A lot more designs, I want to expand my brand to different states. Right now, its local in East Stroudsburg and New York.
