With her first single out on I tunes "Whine on Me" Zahra Jay is on her way to stardom. Born in the Bronx, New York, Zahra Jay grew up singing in the church choir with her cousins who started a group. Moving from the Bronx to Pennsylvania for a better life, Zahra was able to start her music career by starting out at open mics and school talent shows to making appearances hosting at local and out of state events. She is on the rise and is eager to take the world by force. Here is her story.

What is your musical background ?

Many people categorize my music as soca which it is not. All of my music has a Caribbean feel to it, but I would categorize myself as fusion, R&B with a little bit of soca. Before all of this I originally started singing in the church choir with my cousins in a group and it just took off from there.

All of my songs tell a story whether it's good or bad, but it definitely pertains to what I am going through in my life. One of my songs is about me over coming a bad relationship. That song could potentially help somebody else that's going through the same thing that I am going through.

How Do you wish to inspire young people with your music?

Why did you decide to become a singer and

Singing has been the way I go about living, it is in my blood. There is nothing that I can see myself doing other than performing, other than singing, other than telling a story with my music.

How does music make you feel ?

Music causes me to feel many different ways depending on the type of mood I am in or the type of music I am listening to. If I am listening to soca, soca makes me feel good it makes me want to dance. Music gives me a sense of relief.

Who gave you the support to keep writing in the beginning? Who did you play the early songs for?

Shockingly, I didn't have that much support when I started. To me it was just a mental thing. I knew I was good at what I was doing. I knew I was a talented writer I just continued to write. I continued to do what I had to do. Ultimately, I knew people were going to believe in what I am writing.

What job do you think you would be doing now if you didn’t have your music career?

The job I have now as a care giver

How old were you when you wrote your first song and what was it about?

The first song that I wrote I was fourteen years old and it was about me wanting a boy. I wanted him, and I was trying to express that, but he wasn’t giving me any attention.

What’s your recent song and what inspired it?

My recent song is called give me a chance, now that I think about it is kind of the same concept as my other song. The song is about a guy that I use to date and wanting him back.
